General Ophthalmologist

Dr. Mistr received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Duke University in 1995 where she spent a significant portion of her studies at the Duke Marine Lab. Drawn to Hawaii by a love of the ocean and interest in marine science, she received her Master of Science in Geology and Geophysics from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa in 1999.

When not studying, she became a regular in the dawn patrol line up at Brown’s at Diamond Head, venturing to the North Shore whenever possible. After her Master’s degree, she vowed to return to Hawaii to practice medicine since the one element missing from her science education at this point was interaction with people.

She received her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2005 and did her Ophthalmology Residency training at University of Maryland Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences which she completed in 2010. She took her first job at a busy practice in Kona where she worked until shortly before the birth of her son. Dr. Mistr then founded ‘Io Eye Center LLC because she wanted to practice medicine at a place where doctors and patients could relate on a personal level in order to provide truly individualized medical and surgical care.

She has built her practice around serving patients as individuals and has found this most rewarding. She specializes in cataract surgery and other anterior segment diseases of the eye. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, surfing, and spending time with her family.
